Training — Double Run, Double Fun November 12, 2009

Pace: 10:15 mile

Distance: 3.97 miles
Time: 31:09
Pace: 7:50 mile

Yesterday was my first double run day. I did the first 4.36 miles with my wife around the Brentwood Country Club early in the morning and the second leg alone after she left for an acupuncture appointment. According to the Roadrunner schedule, I needed to do an 8 mile recovery, which is why I added the last 3.97 miles.

While I didn’t space out the runs—there was only about 15 minutes of rest between them—I could see how a two-run day could be really rejuvenating. Who couldn’t use some outdoor exercise in the middle of the day for a little boost? Doing two small runs is a nice way to break up the day and I may consider it in the future (though I don’t think it’s as effective as running a longer route continuously).

I agree. I think the 2-a-day run idea is really attrative; but, physically, I think it has different effects than one prolonged run … kind pof like it is much different running 4 440s than 1 1 miler …
